Microsoft is promising that Xbox One versions of Xbox Game Studio games will automatically give free access to the Xbox Series X version of the same game through Smart Delivery.

Publishers and developers may choose to follow Microsoft on this decision. The developers of Cyberpunk 2077 have already announced that they will be offering a Smart Delivery game. In other words, you only need to own Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One to be eligible for the Xbox Series X version of the game for free.

It is also highly likely that some games already released on Xbox One will benefit from a patch that leverages the power of the Xbox Series X, similar to the Xbox One X patches already released.

XBOX SERIES X GAMES

Thanks to numerous acquisitions, Microsoft has 15 development studios within Xbox Game Studios. Several of them are already working on the first games for the Xbox Series X.

“CROSS-GEN” GAMES IN THE FIRST TIME

Regarding exclusive Xbox Series X games, Microsoft announced in 2018 that its studios will still offer their games on Xbox for 1 to 2 years, so until the end of 2021. We are only talking about Xbox Game Studios here. Nothing prevents other studios from making games exclusive to the Xbox Series X.

Halo: Infinite is slated to be the flagship title for the Xbox Series X launch. Its release is slated for late 2020.

Ninja Theory studio has also unveiled Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II for the Xbox Series X, but has not announced a release date yet.

Project: Mara is another game developed by Ninja Theory that the studio says will be “a believable and grounded representation of mental terror”. The development team says, “Based on stories of real-life experiences and extensive study, the goal is to recreate the horrors of the mind in the most accurate and realistic way possible.”

All Xbox Series X games developed by Xbox Game Studios will be offered from day one as part of the Xbox Game Pass membership. This is the case with Halo: Infinite and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Two games have yet to be announced, but rumored to be by the console launch:

  • Fable, a complete reboot of the Microsoft RPG series developed by a new team at Playground Games, behind the Forza Horizon series. It would be a very ambitious open world game.
  • Forza Motorsport 8, developed by Turn10, the creators of the racing game saga. The studio may have had a longer development time than usual to meet the ambition of the series.

Microsoft has promised to dedicate an entire event in July 2020 to Xbox Game Studios games. The conference is rumored to be scheduled for the week of July 20.

THIRD-PARTY PUBLISHERS ‘GAMES

Third-party publishers also prepare their games. The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield have been confirmed as planned for the next-generation console.

Square Enix unveiled Outriders for Xbox Series X and PS5 with a release slated for late 2020. The Japanese firm has also announced that most of its games will be cross-gen, releasing both on the Xbox generation. One and the Xbox Series X generation.
